Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 168

Great Power Pierces Stone is the 168th chapter of Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest by Hiro Mashima and Atsuo Ueda, a sequel to Fairy Tail. Brandish saves Lucy from being devoured by Mercphobia, and the two ladies concentrate on a way to destroy the Dragonization Lacrima affecting the Water Dragon God and the citizens of Ermina Town, and also encasing Aquarius's key.

I’m not sure what everyone is thinking, but all Giant Lucy did was use Mercuphobia's body to break the Lacrima and revert everyone back to normal. She didn’t actually defeat him, and honestly, I doubt she could have taken him down in a one-on-one fight. Remember how Makarov held back Acnologia? I love Lucy, but what on earth just happened in this chapter? It’s so disappointing! I guess I’ll have to wait for more information and see what new demons and enemies show up, but this whole Aquarius situation feels so random. She just appeared out of nowhere, and the Lacrima keeps getting bigger—it doesn’t make any sense. I need more details because this feels so haphazard, ugh. Why didn’t Mashima introduce any new Star Dress combinations or something cool like the Celestial Spirit King? It’s really frustrating. If Lucy’s fight was this underwhelming, I can’t even imagine how a future Erza fight will turn out. She’ll probably just take down a dragon with a single hit again. The main issue is that Mercuphobia’s full-powered attacks were just minor annoyances for Lucy. Plus, she was able to physically overpower him quite easily. The damage he took was from being thrown into the Lacrima, not from the Lacrima itself. Honestly, I think the biggest problem with this fight was the execution rather than the outcome. We could have had an epic water battle between Giant Lucy and Mercuphobia. And they could have used Aquarius to wrap up that boring plotline. Lucy still has a contract with Aquarius, which is why she was able to summon her during the Elentir arc. She doesn’t need to physically touch Aquarius’s key to summon her; it just has to be nearby. Overall, I feel like the fight was a missed opportunity. A team-up between Brandish and Lucy could have been way more exciting than what we actually got.
